Dr Liyanage completed her undergraduate training in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo, Sri Lanka. After 2 years in  clinical medicine, she choose to specialise in Pathology, and completed the MD(Histopathology) in 2005. Upon arriving in Australia, she re-trained in Anatomical pathology in Australia, predominantly in Melbourne and Ballarat, Victoria to obtain a fellowship in Royal College of  Pathologists in Australasia in 2010. Since then, she has worked in the regional hospital setting to include private and public hospital pathology and considerable amount of general practice work. In mid 2018, she joined Dorevitch Pathology.

Her main interests are colorectal, breast, skin, gynaecology and pathology in general.
