Counsyl Foresight Carrier Screen
Expanded carrier screening panels can be used to detect a wider range of at risk couples from different ethnicities in comparison to core carrier screens that often include Cystic Fibrosis (CF), Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) and Fragile X. In this screen, over 175 conditions are tested for.
The goal of carrier screening is to detect at-risk couples for serious genetic diseases. The Counsyl Foresight Carrier Screen has been designed to maximise detection rates for a greater range of diseases, in a wider range of ethnic backgrounds, testing what matters the most.
When should you be tested?
The ideal setting for expanded carrier screening testing is prior to falling pregnant, to have the most time to deal with all possible testing outcomes. However, testing can also be used in an antenatal setting.
When considering the use of expanded carrier screening such as the Counsyl Foresight Carrier Screen it is important patients understand the implications and performance of the test (pre-test counselling), and if they are found to be carriers, what the implications are and what the result means (post-test counselling). Counsyl Australia will be providing a free service for both pre and post-test counselling from Australian based and qualified Genetic Counsellors. Access is through contacting Counsyl on 1300 268 6795 . For post-test counselling, carrier patients will be contacted by Counsyl and a follow up letter will be provided by the requesting clinician.
Will I receive a bill from this test?
The test it is not covered by Medicare so there will be an out-of-pocket cost. Pre-payment is required by phoning 1800 822 999
