Dr. Chandrika Perera

Dr. Chandrika Perera graduated in Sri Lanka before moving to the UK for postgraduate studies, obtaining a Diploma in Bacteriology and PhD. Returning to Sri Lanka, she joined University of Ruhuna, Galle and was Head of Department, Microbiology for seven years. In this time she was involved in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate medical and dental students, working as a clinical microbiologist to the teaching hospital and conducting research. After immigrating to Australia she was a registrar in Microbiology at the Austin Hospital from 2000-02 and was also involved in research on CMV in transplant patients. Chandrika also researched into an algorithm for the detection of Legionella species in clinical specimens by molecular methods.

Chandrika joined Dorevitch Pathology in 2002, and completed her Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia. Her special interests are laboratory diagnosis utilising molecular techniques, infection control, serology and virology.
