Dr. Kua graduated from the National University of Ireland in 1995 and subsequently started training in histopathology (anatomical pathology) in Newcastle Upon Tyne, UK in 1996 and was appointed as Specialist Registrar in Leeds Teaching Hospital in 1999.
After completing his Specialist training in UK, he worked as consultant histopathologist in both public hospitals (Bradford Royal Infirmary, UK) and private laboratory practice (Diagnostic Medlab, Auckland New Zealand) from 2003 to 2004.
Before he was appointed as a pathologist to Dorevitch Pathology, Heidelberg in April 2006, Dr. Kua was working as a general histopathologist in Withybush General Hospital in Wales.

He is a general histopathologist with special interest in gastrointestinal pathology. He has worked and been trained with renowned gastrointestinal pathologist Prof M Dixon in Leeds and also Dr ML Yeong in Auckland. He is a Member of the Royal College of Pathologists, UK and also a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists, Australia.
