Dr Song Chen obtained her MBBS from Dalian Medical University in China in 1994, having been the recipient of a scholarship there. She worked firstly as a HMO then moved onto clinical haematology training at The People’s Hospital of Liaoning Province, a teaching hospital of Dalian Medical University with 1,000 beds.
Dr Chen moved to Australia in 2004 and passed the Australian Medical Council Examinations. She worked as a HMO and medical registrar at Peninsula Health before moving to the Alfred Hospital where Dr Chen began her laboratory haematology training as a registrar. She obtained further training at Healthscope Pathology and St John of God Pathology before obtaining her Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia in 2014. Dr Chen joined Dorevitch Pathology early in 2015.
She is familiar with all aspects of laboratory haematology with special interests in diagnostic morphology and transfusion medicine.
